Update on 13 March 2020
The Chef Takeover event scheduled to take place 24-27 March 2020 at Bellissimo restaurant in Waterford has been postponed following on from the directive issued by the Department of Education and Skills issued on 12 March 2020. Under the directive, which covers the four days of the event, Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is closed until 29 March 2020 and the necessary final stages of the project being cannot be carried out as would be needed by the 12 students. BA (Hons) Culinary Arts students and staff at WIT, the Bellissimo team and sponsors Pallas Foods and ABP Food Group are naturally disappointed. Booking has been closed and we hope you will understand and remain patient while directives and available timescales are followed and an update can be given. At this time Bellissimo will remain open, whilst adhering to all of the guidelines available during this unprecedented event.
Want to experience the rising stars of Irish cuisine before anyone else? Well then, this exclusive event is just for you. A showcase of years of hard work, creativity and finesse, the final-year Bachelor of Culinary Arts students from WIT will take over the kitchen of Bellissimo Restaurant in Ardkeen, Waterford for four unmissable nights from 24th - 27th March 2020. The 12 students have created tasting menus with a strong focus on exceptional local produce and will be working the kitchen at the event in a variety of roles, from head chef to pastry specialist. Michael Quinn, a lecturer at WIT and a renowned chef in his own right, is leading the team of culinary students. A multi-award winner with more than 22 years’ experience, he worked in restaurants in Belfast and London before settling on the beautiful island of Waterford Castle – where he was voted Best Chef of the year in 2012 by the Restaurant Association of Ireland.
